  2.     BRIDGE BARON employs a Standard American style of bidding, based on strong opening 1 notrump bids (16-18 high-card points), five-card major suit opening bids, and strong opening 2-bids.

  4.      BRIDGE BARON also plays the Stayman, Blackwood, and Gerber conventions. The Stayman convention (that is, a bid of 2C in response to partner's 1NT opening bid) is used to look for a 4-4 major suit fit. The Blackwood and Gerber conventions are used to ask for aces and kings en route to a possible slam. Over partner's 1NT or 2NT opening bid, 4C is Gerber, and 4NT is a invitation to 6NT. In all other situations, 4NT is Blackwood. Over a Blackwood 4NT, partner bids 5C with 0 or 4 aces, 5D with 1 ace, 5H with 2 aces, and 5S with 3 aces. 
  5. Over a Gerber 4C, the responses are 4D, 4H, etc. If the Blackwood 4NT bidder follows with 5NT, or the Gerber 4C bidder follows with 5C, this asks for kings, and partner makes the same responses one level higher.

  7.      BRIDGE BARON also plays the "Unusual 2NT" : a direct overcall of an opening bid of 1 of a suit by two notrump shows a hand of weak to medium strength (depending on the vulnerability), and at least five cards in each of the two lowest unbid suits.

  9.      If you wish, you can ask the Baron to play weak 2-bids, negative doubles, weak jump overcalls, and/or forcing 1NT responses.

  11.      Select Hand Evaluation for a display of the Baron's method of hand evaluation. Select Auction Interpretation to see the Baron's interpretation of the auction in terms of point count and suit lengths.

  13.      Optional Conventions
  14.           You can ask the Baron to play the following conventions by selecting Bidding Conventions from the Options menu.

  16.      Weak 2-bid
  17.           An opening bid of 2D, 2H or 2S shows at least 6 cards in the suit bid, with 5 or more high-card points, but not strong enough to open at the 1-level. A 2C opening bid is used to show a strong 2-bid in any suit, or a balanced hand with 23-24 high-card points (the 2NT opening bid now shows 21-22 points).

  19.      Weak Jump Overcall
  20.           A jump overcall over an opening suit bid is weak and preemptive, and shows at least 6 cards in the suit with about 7-11 high-card points.

  22.      Negative Double
  23.           When your partner opens with 1 of a suit and the next player overcalls at the 1- or 2-level, a negative double is a takeout for the unbid suits. In particular, it shows 4 cards in the unbid major(s) or a 5 or 6 card major with a hand too weak to bid the major.

  25.      Forcing 1 Notrump
  26.           A One Notrump bid in response to a one-level opening major suit bid is forcing for one round.  Opener rebids his major if it is a six card suit, shows a four card heart suit if his opening bid was 1S, rebids 2 NT with notrump distribution and 16 high card points, rebids 3 NT with notrump distribution and 19 high card points, or rebids his better minor.
